I'm
glad you're here, and if you're excited about learning to play the
piano, you've come to the right place. I'm committed to
helping students of all ages experience the joy of playing the
piano.My own piano studies
began in elementary school when I started taking lessons from a
wonderful teacher. She provided me with a solid musical
foundation and introduced me to classical music early on. In
addition, I was allowed to play popular music and other styles of
music for fun, giving me well-rounded exposure to music. After
only a few lessons I decided that I, too, wanted to be a piano
teacher and started "practicing" on my little sister.
During high
school in Atlanta, GA I was accompanist for the Beginning Girls Chorus and the
Boys Chorus under the direction of Dr. James T. McRaney, who was also a
great musical influence. I played for these choruses for
several years, and we always scored well at Festival. I
also accompanied band students in competitions, which
gave me early experience in playing with other instruments. At church, I played for
children's choir. In the worship services I was focused on the
piano, and I think I knew then that I wanted to be a church pianist
as well.
I continued with other teachers,
pursuing additional classical training and hymn improvisation.
Later on, I studied privately for
two years with Stephen Parker and the acclaimed Elizabeth Buday at Shorter College in Rome, GA.
I then went on to become a piano
teacher and church pianist. I have 10 years prior teaching
experience, and 23 years as a church pianist. I was pianist at
Spring Place Baptist Church in Chatsworth, GA for many years, and I
am currently pianist at
Cohutta First Baptist Church
in Cohutta, GA. I also have a business
background in banking and real estate, and an Associate of Science
degree in Business Administration.
Thank you for visiting, and please
let me know if you have any questions or if you are ready to make
the commitment to learn to play the piano. My goal is to
provide a structured and well-rounded musical education, instilling
a love of music and helping students to develop their abilities to
their full potential, whether average or gifted, child or adult.
